Like other Mountain Mahoganies, Alderleaf is useful either as a hedge or as a foundation plant. It is suited to dry open sites, but with a little more water, it will take on the lush appearance of a traditional garden plant. The flowers go unnoticed, but the feathery seeds are characteristic of all Cercocarpus montanus | Mountain Mahoganies. Use it in a hedge or a specimen shrub with other xeriscape plants such a Oakleaf Sumac and Fernbush. Prune in spring to keep it lush and tidy.
