Shepherdia argentea | Silver Buffaloberry

Silver Buffaloberry is a striking plant used either as a small tree or as a hedge. The leaves are bright silver and brighten up a ho-hum green landscape. But beware! It is armed with thorns that protect songbirds from stray cats. The flowers are unremarkable, but the small bright, red, edible fruits produced on the female plants, hang on from late summer into fall when they become juicy and sweet.
